About the EveryHam Amateur Radio Contest

Objective

The Every Ham Contest is designed to be a highly accessible amateur radio contest, emphasizing quality over quantity (see Philosophy).

Stations may submit up to five (5) contacts. Points are based on contact distance, with multipliers applied based on band and mode.

The Rules

Contest Period

The contest runs for a single 24-hour block on the second Saturday of the month, beginning at 00:00 UTC and ending at 23:59 UTC.

Power Limit

Maximum Power: 20 Watts PEP output.

Exchange

• Callsign
• 6-Character Maidenhead grid (preferred)
  • For Participating Stations: You are encouraged to give your 6-character grid as part of your standard exchange.
  • For Non-Participating Stations: If the station you work does not know or provide their grid square, you may determine it after the contact using reputable sources (QRZ.com, online callbooks, or postal address-to-grid converters).

Scoring

• Stations may only submit a maximum of FIVE (5) contacts.
• A station’s total score is the sum of the score of all submitted contacts.
• Only simplex operation is allowed (no repeaters or other forms of artificially assisted propagation may be used).
• Submitted contacts must be unique stations (cannot claim the same station twice, regardless of band/mode used).

Distance Points: 1 Point per 100 Kilometers (measured center to center of each six-character Maidenhead gridsquare).

Logging and Submission

A station may submit up to FIVE (5) contacts for scoring.
Logs must be in ADIF format and must include the following fields: call, qso_date,band, mode, gridsquare and my_gridsquare.

Philosophy

To achieve the objective of the EveryHam contest, bands and modes are heavily weighted in an attempt to award points based on the typical difficulty of a contact while accounting for the physical characteristics of each band/mode.
The 20w maximum power restriction aims to be achievable by both fixed and mobile/portable stations.
The 24-hour period combined with the low number of submitted contacts aims to provide opportunity for a station to participate competitively in the contest, regardless of their timezone, occupation, or personal schedule, and encourages taking the time needed to complete a quality contact.
